I usually do a pastel by first starting with an underpainting of acrylic. This time I laid down a pastel background and then painted over it with turpenoid to blur it. After that dried I began to place the pastel over it.
This is an evening piece that evokes that evening drive feeling and view of the car ahead as well as one oncoming. The oncoming car's headlight is peeking through the beat-up old metal barrier that you so often see on the Merritt.
